We’re delighted to be able to tell our members that Glenrothes ASC has been short-listed for the Club of the Year Award in the Kirkcaldy & Central Fife Sports Council awards for 2023.

The Kirkcaldy & Central Fife Sports Council was formed in 2006 to support and develop sustainable opportunities and build capacity for sports participation in the community. Every year it seeks nominations from sports clubs for a variety of awards, and from those nominations it produces a shortlist.

The club’s nomination came on the back of quite amazing year for the club with successes at UK, national and East District levels. This was accompanied by a huge rise in interest in the interest shown in joining the club with numbers at their highest level for years. Our Head Coach Craig Holmes was recognised by being invited to become part of the Scottish coaching set up, while three of our swimmers were included in the Scottish Junior Squad. Among the highlights were Lucy Crookston’s remarkable 5th place in the World Triathlon Championships in Pontevedra, Spain and David Smyth making it to the British Championships for the second successive year; then there was Alex Holmes and Amelia Burel’s selection to represent Scotland East at the Inter-Counties event at Sheffield; and surely Scott Mitchell’s lifetime best at the age of 26 to win silver at the British Masters Championships. The culmination of a fantastic year was the club winning the Fife Championships at the end of 2023 – the win involved around forty Glenrothes swimmers across a wide range of age groups. It was only the fourth time that the club has won the trophy.

The club’s nomination also takes account of the huge number of volunteers – currently more than seventy - from across all sections of the community that are involved and who keep the club progressing.

The actual ceremony takes place on Thursday 7th March 2024 at 6:30pm at the Atrium, Fife College, St. Brycedale Campus, Kirkcaldy. Wish us well!
